I came across this nice YouTube clip from Through the Roof Learning that explains nicely the relationship between IQ and a population. IQ isn’t he only measure of talent and ability, nor does it give a full picture of what Giftedness means. And it is possible for someone who is gifted to ‘fail’ an IQ test. But it is still a succinct way of finding out where a child lies currently in ability. As ever, beware of the pitfalls of generalisations, especially towards the end – it is possible for a teacher to have several gifted children in a class.
